HIV From Sex Toys?
Question: I am a man who is Bi-curious (just actually learned about this fairly recently). I hope this doesn't sound too naive of a question, but I recently bought my first toy and wanted to ask if it’s possible for a guy to get HIV from using it on himself. Even if it’s thoroughly washed with hot soap and water before usage?
I ordered the toy from an online store and upon taking it out of the packaging I got a little concerned that the packaging wasn't entirely sealed (thereby making me think of the “environment” of the company which I ordered from, cleanliness, etc). Am I over obsessing too much about this? I'm a little concerned.
Answer: You have valid concerns. This is why we recommend that ALL sex toys be cleaned before AND after they are used. Sex toys should not be share with others unless you are in a committed relationship and/or use a condom with the toy.
You cannot get HIV from using a sex toy on yourself. Also, even if the package seal was broken, HIV is not airborne.
