Can my wife restore her sex drive?
Question: I'm a 27-year-old man. After our son was born three years ago, my wife completely lost her sex drive. Totally. What could caused this? Can it be helped? Her loss of sex drive and her lack of interest in intercourse have put a strain on our already rocky marriage. Can you help?
Answer: The hormonal changes caused by pregnancy and delivery might have resulted in a loss of androgens to the point where your wife's sex drive was affected. To check, she could ask her gynecologist for a hormone-level blood test. But your rocky marriage might also cause or contribute to the problem. Relationship problems are a major cause of sex problems, especially if the interpersonal issues have made your wife depressed. We suggest that in addition to the blood test, you consider marriage counseling. Ask your doctor or clergyman or local department of mental health for a referral to a marriage counselor.
